About

A nice day at Butchart Gardens in British Columbia, Canada near Victoria in 2024

Hi, welcome to my website. I’m Amber Rocio Smith and I have been a Software Engineer in the gaming industry for over three years. I used to work on the MMORPG Crowfall and the mobile CCG Little Alchemist Remastered. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 2020. I have lived near Austin, Texas my whole life.

I made my first game in Unity 4.0 in 2015 when I was in high school, and I haven’t stopped making games since then. This website showcases a bunch of my old projects.

Testing Rain on the Oculus Rift in 2019

I have been lucky to work on many different VR projects in the past, including the cartoony simulator game Baby Hands when I worked at Chicken Waffle and the artistic project Rain at the UT SAGA lab. I love learning how to work with new VR hardware, and so far I’ve worked on games for the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Quest, Google Daydream, and Windows Mixed Reality headsets.

Dad, Mom, and me at Walt Disney World in 2021

I’m actually a second-generation game programmer. My dad, Gary Scott Smith, worked on Tangled Tales: The Misadventures of a Wizard’s Apprentice, Ultima: Runes of Virtue, and currently works on Wizard101. I played a lot of Wizard101 growing up and even had a blog dedicated to it when I was a teenager. My mom is really cool too but her superpowers are top-secret.

When I was a small child, all three of us played Animal Crossing: Population Growing on the GameCube together. Since I hadn’t learned how to read yet, my parents helped me pay for all the house upgrades in that game. I have fond memories of having Bob the cat as a neighbor.

My Animal Crossing birthday party in 2022

Unsurprisingly, my favorite game series is currently Animal Crossing and I am a little bit obsessed- I’ve made models for 3D printing based on the games and several machinima videos in ACNH. I also read a lot, and some of my favorite book series are The Murderbot Diaries, Heartstrikers, Skyward, and The Riyria Revelations. I’m a lore expert for the 2004 Nickelodeon cartoon Danny Phantom. I’m also not very good at Pac-Man, but I really like the song “Pac-Man Fever” by Buckner & Garcia.
